In 1941 Prof. Dr. R. Heiss founded the Institute of Food Research with the core topic of "Haltbar verpackte Lebensmittel" meaning safe and shelfstable packed food. This was the starting point of an ongoing trustful co-operation between industry (IVLV), science and government. In the seventies Prof. Dr. Heiss handed over the institute to the Fraunhofer Organisation, one well known applied research partner of the industry.
Until his move to Freising near Munich the Institute of Food Research was located in Munich, Schragenhofstrasse 35. With this move in 1996 to Freising the Fraunhofer-Institute changed his name into Fraunhofer - Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging (Fraunhofer IVV). Today the office of the IVLV is still located in Munich, Schragenhofstr. 35. Independent of the different sites we have a very strong and close cooperation with the Fraunhofer IVV.
